Cumin - a beautiful spice along with potatoes

CUMIN PEPPER POTATOES

Before I share my recipe with you all, let us first talk about this excellent spice called CUMIN and its health benefits.

Cumin is used in the cuisines of many different cultures in both whole and powdered form. It is widely used in Mexican, Spanish, Indian and middle eastern cooking. Its flavor makes it a favorite for many. Apart from imparting that aroma to your dish, it has many health benefits too.

It helps fight cancer due to its high anti oxidant content, helps in digestion by stimulating the production of pancreatic enzymes and a good source of iron, manganese and other vitamins and minerals.

So let us now make a recipe using cumin. It is my version of the famous zeera aalu recipe from India.

CUMIN PEPPER POTATOES

Serves 1 to 2
Prep time 10 to 15 mins
Cooking time 15 to 20 mins

INGREDIENTS

Potatoes cut into strips  2 medium
Onion sliced 1 medium
Garlic chopped 1 tsp
Cumin whole 1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Black pepper powder 1/4 tsp
Green chillies chopped 1-2
Salt to taste
Oil 1 and a half tbsp

METHOD

Heat oil in a pan, put potatoes and fry for 5 mins on medium flame. Next put onions and saute till onions turn translucent. Now add cumin, garlic, chillies, turmeric, pepper and salt. Mix well and cook on medium flame till potatoes turn tender. Garnish with coriander and serve hot with bread of your choice.
